How climate change is threatening food security in sub-Saharan Africa

Researchers at MIT have been predicting how climate change is likely to affect maize productions in Africa. According to the study, maize yield will be dramatically reduced as a result of drought in large parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

This is particularly problematic for the population of sub-Saharan Africa, where roughly 300 million people are reliant on maize as their primary source of food. As farmers in this area depend heavily on rainwater for farming, long-term droughts will be extremely damaging to crop production.
