Global renewables growth has stalled—and that’s terrible news

The year 2018 fell short in global renewable energy growth, adding only approximately 180 gigawatts of renewables capacity. This number falls significantly under the 300 gigawatts that was determined would have to be added per year in order to stay on track to reach the 2030 Paris agreement goals. In this article James Temple, MIT Technology Review's senior editor for energy, examines the various declines in renewable development that occurred around the globe, as well as presents the question as to whether our global climate goals are truly feasible.
