Winner announced - MIT Climate: Logo Design Competition

Update: The contest winner has been announced!  Congratulations to MIT first year Natasha Hirt!  We will be updating the website with the new logo shortly.

 

MIT Climate: Science & Action

MIT has launched a dynamic new Institute website, the MIT Climate portal, climate.mit.edu. A partnership between the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI) and MIT Open Learning, MIT Climate fulfills a core objective of MIT’s 2015 Plan for Action on Climate Change — the development of a new climate site that seeks to share what we know and learn from others.

For the MIT community, MIT Climate will be a platform for raising the visibility of programs and latest research on climate change; sharing diverse perspectives; finding other climate activities on campus; engaging new audiences; and driving more traffic to existing MIT sites. For the public, the portal will be an interactive resource for learning and acting, and a window into all of the excellent work happening at MIT on climate change every day.  Read more about the portal.

Competition

WHO: MIT community (students, researchers, faculty, staff, alumni)

WHAT: Logo design competition for “MIT Climate” online portal

WHEN: Competition closes Wed. Oct 17, 2018, 6 PM ET

WHY: To represent the diverse work happening at the Institute every day on climate change: from improving solar panel efficiency to engineering clean nuclear energy technology; from studying cloud formation to modeling ocean acidification; from designing biodegradable materials to testing carbon sequestration and utilization; from modeling carbon pricing scenarios to understanding the links between abnormal weather and human behavior; and much more.

PRIZE: $200 gift card (MIT TechCash, MIT Co-op, or Amazon.)

HOW:

  • Upload your logo design online via Dropbox, Google Drive, Twitter, Instagram, Imgur, etc.

  • Create a profile on climate.mit.edu

  • Comment on this post (below) with a link to your design

VOTE:  Upvote designs you like (or get others to vote for yours).

 

Before starting your design, we strongly recommend that you review the MIT Graphic Identity website.

 

RULES

Winning entry or entries will be selected by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative and MIT Open Learning staff (“Organizers”). By submitting an entry to the competition, you are granting the Organizers the rights to distribute your work, and giving others the right to use the work with appropriate citation under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 United States License. Subject to the terms of this license, third parties have the right to use or reference your work, with attribution.

By submitting an entry to the competition, you agree to transfer all ownership rights of your design to the Organizers if (and only if) your design is selected as a winning entry. The Organizers may alter your winning entry for its final design. In the unlikely case of the Organizers awarding more than one winning entry, the Organizers will split the prize between the winning entrants. In the unlikely case that the Organizers do not wish to select one of the submitted designs, they reserve the right to not award any winners.

Winning entrant(s) will be contacted using the email address provided on their MIT Climate online profile. Entrants are responsible for ensuring that the email address in the profile is valid and able to receive mail.

The competition is open to anyone within the MIT community who has a valid and working “mit.edu” email address.  If you are under 18 years old, you will need your parent or legal guardian to register on the website and submit your entry for you. Competitions, however, are void where prohibited by law. Entrants bear the responsibility of checking with local laws and regulations, to ensure their participation does not violate any applicable law or ordinance, and to ensure they are eligible to participate. U.S. law prevents the Organizers from awarding prize money to persons ordinarily resident in Iran, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, or Crimea and to parties blocked by the U.S. Treasury Department.

Entrants are prohibited from posting any copyrighted or otherwise restricted works of others, and are prohibited from plagiarizing others’ materials. The Organizers reserve the right to remove content that it determines in its sole discretion violates these terms.

The Organizers reserve the right to remove objectionable or offensive images, links, or other content from its website. The Organizers also reserve the right to disable member accounts associated with objectionable or offensive content, contents which violate our community guidelines, or any entry at their discretion.
