California looks to eliminate gas guzzlers—but legal hurdles abound

California governor Gavin Newsom made a bold attempt to eliminate sales of new gas-guzzling cars and trucks, writes James Temple for MIT Technology Review. But the effort to clean up the state's largest source of climate emissions is almost certain to face serious legal challenges.
