11.S941 - Solving for Carbon Neutrality offered again in spring 2019

"Solving for Carbon Neutrality at MIT" will be offered for the second time this spring, taught by Julie Newman, Director of Sustainability at MITOS, and Tim Gutowski, Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

This course is designed for students interested in a project-based curriculum that seeks to radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and shift away from fossil fuels. The MIT campus will be used as the case study to provide students with first hand exposure and engagement to understand what it takes to reduce energy and design for a fossil free energy supply. Our solutions are guided by experts from MIT's faculty and operations staff, as well as outside experts who address the multidisciplinary features of this complex problem. The course will include lectures and discussion on climate science, ethics, carbon accounting, cost estimating, energy supply, energy demand management, energy infrastructure, and new technologies, financial instruments, electricity markets, policy, human behavior and regulation.
