In this MarketWatch opinion piece, Prof. John Sterman of MIT Sloan outlines a more effective strategy for implementing offset programs. According to Sterman, many carbon offset programs are based on dubious assumptions and can actually worsen the climate problem. "To truly cut emissions, offsets must be AVID+: Additional, Verifiable, Immediate, Durable — and help meet other societal goals (the “plus”).
