Soaring temperatures will raise the risk of armed conflict

A recent paper published by climate experts, including those from Stanford, the University of Exeter, and the Peace Research Institute Oslo, has revealed that changing climate conditions have increased the likelihood of armed conflict breaking out. In this article James Temple, MIT Technology Review’s senior editor for energy, relays findings that if global temperatures rise by 2 °C, the risk of armed conflict would increase by 13%. Climate impacts have the potential to lead to economic shocks, which can intensify the drivers of violence.
