Geoengineering is very controversial. How can you do experiments? Harvard has some ideas.

Harvard University just announced the formation of a committee to advise scientists on whether and how to move forward with a geoengineering project, SCoPEx. Critics, however, worry that geoengineering—the deliberate changing of Earth's atmosphere to counteract global warming—is too dangerous for real-world experiments. In this article, James Temple, MIT Technology Review's senior editor for energy, breaks down Harvard's plans for a real-world stratospheric aerosol experiment, and the complex ethical debate the proposal has raised.
